PDP Chair: Gabam Defeats Ex-FCT Minister, Emerges Bauchi Nominee

Ahead of the election of a new national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the immediate past minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed, was over the weekend defeated by the former director of contact and mobilization of the defunct IBB campaign council, Alh. Shehu Musa Gabam, to emerge as the Bauchi State nominee for the party’s top position.
Gabam, who is also
a former deputy governorship candidate in the state, was nominated by a resolution of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, following directives from the party’s national headquarters that all North-Eastern states should forward name of a single nominee for election as national chairman of the party.
In a latter presented to the nominee in Abuja and signed by both the state’s deputy chairman and secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna Ningi and Barr. Mukhtar Usman respectively, the party said it has nominated Gabam because of his unblemished track record of excellence, his widespread popularity and admiration extended to him by the party faithful across the length and breath of the state.
“He truly belong to the present generation of politicians with ideas that are in tune with the present day socio-political realities capable of changing hit e destiny of our party for good and in no distant time. He also does not subscribe to the cause of any particular interest group within the party,” the letter said.
The SWC added that with Gabam as their nominee, the state stands the best chance to make the most competent national chairman of the party.
With this development, Gabam will have to slug it out with four other PDP national chairmanship aspirants, who have been nominated by their various state caucuses.
The other contenders include Amb. Wilberforce Juta (Adamawa), Alhaji Abba Gana (Borno), Alhaji Giri Lawal (Yobe), and Senator Saidu Umar Kumo (Gombe).
They are all said to be currently intensifying their lobbying across the six geo-political zones of the country ahead of scheduled meetings of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) later within the week in order to take a final decision on the party’s new chairman.
